The Issues · Vote for Gleason
388 million Christians face persecution worldwide. A Christian is murdered every two hours in Africa alone. And here at home, the government treats the faithful as threats to be monitored.
Chris Gleason will fight for religious liberty at home and demand action for persecuted Christians abroad. As a veteran who swore an oath to defend the Constitution, he takes the First Amendment personally. The free exercise of religion is not negotiable.
The Crisis
Every two hours, a Christian is murdered for their faith in sub-Saharan Africa. In Nigeria alone, more than 7,000 Christians were killed in the first eight months of 2025, an average of thirty-five per day. Churches are burned. Villages are razed. Women and children are abducted, enslaved, and trafficked. The perpetrators are Islamist terror groups like Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province, and radicalized Fulani militias who have publicly declared their intention to eliminate Christianity from West Africa within fifty years. The world's response has been silence.
This is not a regional crisis. It is a global catastrophe. According to the Open Doors World Watch List 2026, 388 million Christians worldwide face high levels of persecution and discrimination, an increase of 8 million from the previous year. North Korea remains the most dangerous place on earth to be a Christian, where discovery means execution or deportation to labor camps. In Syria, the fall of the Assad regime has triggered a massive spike in violence against Christian communities. In China, the government monitors churches, forces pastors into indoctrination sessions, and treats believers as ideological threats. In India, Hindu nationalist laws systematically discriminate against Christians. Across the Middle East, ancient Christian communities that have worshiped for two thousand years are being driven to extinction.
The United States has the power to respond. We have diplomatic leverage, economic sanctions, military capability, and moral authority. But for decades, the protection of persecuted Christians has been treated as an afterthought, a talking point for fundraising letters rather than a genuine foreign policy priority. Christians are being slaughtered, and the American government has done little more than issue statements of concern.
The crisis abroad is compounded by a troubling pattern at home. In 2023, an FBI memorandum labeled "radical-traditionalist" Catholics as domestic terrorism threats and suggested infiltrating Catholic parishes for "threat mitigation." Federal agencies have sought to force Christians to affirm ideologies that contradict their faith as a condition of employment. Religious charities serving immigrants have been targeted with lawfare and harassment. The message from the government has been unmistakable: your faith is tolerated, not protected, and only so long as it conforms to approved secular orthodoxies.
Chris Gleason believes the First Amendment means exactly what it says.
Where the Persecution Hits Hardest
7,000+ Christians Killed in 2025
Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militants have killed more Christians in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined. Churches burned, villages destroyed, women and children abducted. An average of 35 Christians murdered every single day.
#1 on World Watch List - 23 Years
Discovery of Christian faith means execution or deportation to brutal labor camps. House churches are driven underground. Possession of a Bible is a death sentence. The most closed country on earth.
93% of Global Christian Murders
Fourteen of the fifty worst countries for persecution are in this region. Jihadist groups operate with impunity across Burkina Faso, Mali, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Somalia, Niger, and Mozambique.
Surveillance State Targets Churches
Churches face ideological pressure, pastors are forced into indoctrination sessions, and believers fear online and real-world surveillance. Christianity is treated as a threat to state ideology.
Jumped to #6 on World Watch List
The fall of Assad has triggered a devastating spike in anti-Christian violence. The June 2025 Damascus church attack killed 22 people. Ancient communities face extinction under the new regime.
Hindu Nationalism Rises
Anti-conversion laws discriminate against Christians. Violence in Manipur has displaced tens of thousands. The ruling ideology treats Christianity as a foreign threat to be eradicated.
A Christian is murdered every two hours
in Africa. The world is silent.
Churches burned. Women enslaved. Children orphaned. And the governments with the power to act have chosen to look away. Chris Gleason won't. He'll make the protection of persecuted Christians a genuine foreign policy priority, not a fundraising talking point.
The Threat at Home
The persecution of Christians is not limited to foreign shores. Here in the United States, government agencies have increasingly treated religious believers not as citizens exercising their constitutional rights, but as ideological threats to be monitored, marginalized, and compelled to conform.
In 2023, an FBI field office circulated a memorandum identifying "radical-traditionalist" Catholics as potential domestic terrorism threats. The memo cited "propaganda from highly partisan sources" and suggested infiltrating Catholic parishes for "threat mitigation." The document was later retracted, but only after public outcry. The underlying attitude remained: devout faith is suspicious.
Federal agencies have attempted to force Christians to affirm ideologies that contradict their religious beliefs as a condition of employment. Religious charities have faced lawfare for serving immigrants. Parents have been told they cannot opt their children out of instruction that directly contradicts their faith. Public school districts have refused religious accommodation requests while granting secular ones. The pattern is consistent: religious liberty is treated as an obstacle to be overcome, not a right to be protected.
Chris will make international religious persecution a Senate priority and defend faith at home.
Make Religious Freedom Central to American Diplomacy
For too long, the protection of persecuted Christians abroad has been rhetorical. Statements are issued. Condolences are offered. Then nothing changes. Chris will push for legislation that makes the protection of persecuted Christians a binding foreign policy priority, not a discretionary afterthought subject to diplomatic convenience.
This means conditioning foreign aid on measurable progress in protecting religious minorities, mandating that the State Department's Office of International Religious Freedom report directly to the Secretary of State, and requiring that religious persecution be formally considered in all bilateral and multilateral negotiations with countries on the World Watch List. Nations that receive American taxpayer dollars while permitting the slaughter of Christians will face real consequences, not just press releases.
The Current Failure
Nigeria has been on the World Watch List for years. The U.S. has continued to provide hundreds of millions in foreign aid while Christians are murdered at a rate of 35 per day. The International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 created a framework for action that has been consistently ignored. Chris will demand that the framework be enforced, not just invoked.
Hit Them Where It Hurts
The United States has extensive sanctions authority under the Global Magnitsky Act and other statutes. This authority has been used against human rights abusers in dozens of countries. Chris will push for its aggressive application to individuals, organizations, and governments directly responsible for the persecution of Christians.
Sanctions will include asset freezes for officials who enable or ignore anti-Christian violence, travel bans for members of persecuting regimes and their families, and designation of terrorist organizations specifically targeting Christians. When a Fulani militia commander orders the burning of a church, he should know that he will never set foot in America, never access the international banking system, and never escape accountability for his crimes.
Sanctions Work
Open Doors cited Nicaragua as a case where targeted sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans against President Ortega and his wife, may have prevented the situation from becoming worse. The same tools can be applied to persecutors in Nigeria, China, India, and elsewhere, if there is political will to use them.
Open the Door to the Persecuted Church
Christians fleeing genocide deserve priority in America's refugee admissions process. When a family has lost everything because of their faith in Christ, when their church has been burned and their neighbors murdered, when they have nowhere else to go, the United States should be their refuge. Chris will fight for legislation that explicitly prioritizes refugees fleeing religious persecution, with particular attention to Christians from the most dangerous countries on the World Watch List.
This is not about excluding other refugees. It is about recognizing that Christians are disproportionately targeted in many of the world's most dangerous places and ensuring that our refugee system reflects that reality. In Nigeria, Christians are 2.7 times more likely to be killed in attacks than Muslims. In Syria, ancient Christian communities face extinction. These believers deserve protection.
The Displacement Crisis
According to Open Doors, 26,062 Christians were forced to leave their countries for faith-related reasons in the most recent reporting period. In Azerbaijan alone, an estimated 10,000 Christians fled. In Sudan, more than 7.7 million people have been displaced by civil war, with Christians disproportionately affected. These are not statistics. They are souls.
Religious Liberty Is Not Negotiable
The Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment guarantees the right of every American to practice their religion without government interference. That right has been eroded by agencies that treat religious conviction as an obstacle to policy goals, by employers who demand ideological conformity, and by courts that too often balance away religious liberty against competing interests. Chris will fight to restore the First Amendment to its original meaning and strength.
This includes supporting the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and pushing for its consistent enforcement, opposing any federal regulation that conditions employment, funding, or participation in public programs on abandonment of religious beliefs, and ensuring that religious exemptions to generally applicable laws are granted on the same terms as secular exemptions. If the government can exempt you from a requirement for medical reasons, it can exempt you for religious reasons. Period.
Recent Victories and Ongoing Threats
The Supreme Court has issued important rulings protecting religious liberty in recent years, including Mahmoud v. Taylor (2025), which held that parents cannot be forced to accept instruction that threatens their religious beliefs. But regulatory agencies continue to push the boundaries, and lower courts remain inconsistent. Constant vigilance is required.
Parents Decide What Their Children Learn
Parents have the fundamental right to direct the education and upbringing of their children in accordance with their religious beliefs. This right has been recognized by the Supreme Court for over a century. But across the country, school districts are refusing to let parents opt their children out of instruction that directly contradicts their faith, treating religious objections as less legitimate than secular ones.
Chris will fight for federal legislation protecting the right of parents to opt their children out of any instruction that conflicts with their sincerely held religious beliefs. He will oppose any federal education funding that conditions receipt on abandonment of parental rights. And he will support school choice initiatives that allow parents to direct their education dollars to schools that share their values, including religious schools.
The Battleground
In Montgomery County, Maryland, parents were denied the right to opt their children out of LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum. The case went to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of parents in 2025. But similar battles are being fought across the country, and many school districts continue to resist parental authority. Federal protection is needed.
Your Faith Is Not a Threat
The FBI memorandum targeting "radical-traditionalist" Catholics was not an isolated incident. It was a symptom of an institutional culture that treats devout religious belief as inherently suspicious. Chris will demand structural reforms to ensure that no federal agency ever again treats Americans as threats because of their faith.
This includes mandatory religious liberty training for all federal law enforcement personnel, explicit prohibition on using religious affiliation or practice as a factor in threat assessments, whistleblower protections for federal employees who report anti-religious bias within their agencies, and congressional oversight hearings with subpoena power to investigate past targeting of religious groups. The government works for the people, not the other way around.
The 2025 Executive Order
President Trump signed an executive order on February 6, 2025 titled "Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias," establishing a task force to review federal targeting of religious groups. Chris will ensure that the reforms initiated by this order become permanent law, not just executive action that can be reversed by the next administration.
Partner with Those on the Front Lines
Organizations like Open Doors, Voice of the Martyrs, International Christian Concern, and Aid to the Church in Need have spent decades documenting persecution, supporting survivors, and advocating for the persecuted church. They are the eyes and ears of the global Christian community in the world's most dangerous places. Chris will push for federal support of these organizations' documentation and advocacy efforts.
This includes grants for persecution research and reporting, partnership with the State Department's Office of International Religious Freedom, and formal consultation in the development of foreign policy toward persecuting nations. The federal government does not need to reinvent the wheel. The infrastructure for responding to Christian persecution already exists. It just needs to be funded, empowered, and listened to.
The World Watch List
Open Doors' annual World Watch List is the most comprehensive research on Christian persecution in the world. It is compiled by a team of eight full-time persecution analysts, verified by the International Institute for Religious Freedom, and covers 100 countries. This is the kind of rigorous, independent research that should inform American foreign policy.
No One Should Be Forced to Violate Their Faith
Healthcare workers have been told they must perform procedures that violate their religious beliefs or lose their jobs. Federal agencies have sought to interpret nondiscrimination statutes to require participation in abortions, gender transition procedures, and other interventions that many Christians believe are morally wrong. Chris will fight to ensure that no healthcare worker is ever forced to choose between their conscience and their career.
This includes robust enforcement of existing federal conscience statutes, opposition to any regulation that conditions healthcare participation on willingness to perform procedures that violate religious beliefs, and support for legislation that creates a private right of action for healthcare workers whose conscience rights are violated. The Hippocratic tradition has always recognized that physicians are not mere technicians. They are moral agents with the right to refuse to participate in procedures they believe are harmful.
The Regulatory Threat
The Biden Administration's Section 1557 rule sought to interpret the Affordable Care Act's nondiscrimination provision to require healthcare providers to perform gender transition procedures regardless of religious objection. The USCCB's 2025 Annual Report on Religious Liberty identified this as one of the most significant threats to conscience rights at the federal level.

Chris Gleason will make religious liberty a priority, not an afterthought. He'll sanction the persecutors, prioritize the refugees, and defend the First Amendment at home. But he can't do it without you.
The Choice
388 million Christians are waiting for someone to act. Chris Gleason will be that someone. He'll fight for the persecuted church abroad and defend religious liberty at home. Stand with him.
Every dollar fuels the fight. Every volunteer multiplies our reach. Florida deserves a Senator who answers to the people.
Help Chris defend the First Amendment, protect houses of worship, and hold persecutors accountable.
